Pawz boots for dogs are soooo helpful!

Easy to get on.  Slightly stretch them over you dog's paw.  They stay on without straps.  My pups can still feel the ground without getting their paws full of snow or getting wet.  You can order them at www.healthypetcompany.com and shipping is free.  Petco now has them in their stores as well.

Check out www.pamperedpuppy.com

They even have treadmills for your special pup.

Please Do Not Forget Your Pet's Vacation Reservation!

When you plan your trip, make airline reservations or book your hotel room, please remember to immediately plan for your special pet's vacation time as well.  Busy times are Winter Break, Spring Break, Thanksgiving, end of August (right before the children go back to school).  You want your pet's favorite pet watcher looking after your pet!

Deskunking

I have had clients and neighbors who have had their dog skunked.  The favorite solution is to bathe the dog with:

    1 Qt Hydrogen Peroxide
    1/4 C Baking Soda
1 tsp Liquid Soap (Dawn is preferred)

Wet your dog down, pour the mixture over your dog, rub in, and rinse.

Large dogs should have a double recipe.

This recipe was published in Popular Science in August 1995 and is still recommended as the best.

Skunks love to go under sheds.  My parents taught me long ago to toss moth balls where you do not want critters to live.  Opossums (possums) use to try and dig under our shed.  I was always worried that one would come out from underneath the shed when I would open the doors.  After trying unsuccessfully to block the openings, I tossed moth balls under the shed.  We are critter free!
Notice how your pet stretches before a walk.  Don't forget that you too should stretch before walking!  And after!

Keeping your pet off a recently treated lawn is important.  Some chemicals can burn your dog.  We've all seen the stake in the grass with the card saying that the lawn has been treated.  On the back the date is written when the lawn was treated.  Look to see how long ago.  Some homeowners forget to remove them.

Did you know that you can give your dog Metamucil?  This is Veterinarian recommended for dogs who regularly have their anal glands cleared.  As the dog defecates the product helps clean the glands.  Please check with your Veterinarian before using to see if your dog can take Metamucil and if so how much you should give your dog.

This is a sad but a good story to tell.  I have a client with two sweet dogs.  The older one had to go to the Veterinarian overnight.  The younger one kept looking for her older brother while he was away.  A few short months later it was determined by the Veterinarian that the older dog was in pain and nothing more could be done.  The younger dog came with the family as her older brother was put to sleep.  Once back home the little sister never looked for her big brother again.  She knew that it was just her and the family now.  My heart was broken when the mother called to tell me the news.  What a brave thing the family did by bringing the other dog with them to the Veterinarian.  I too have two dogs and when the time comes I too will have the other one with us.  We know that our fur kids are smart and they do understand what is happening.
